Hello, Cleveland!

Comments have been activated by popular demand (read: the Green Mountain State's finest asked nicely) so there you go. Also, an FAQ is in the works.

I don't know how old these kids are (high school maybe?) but I like this little sketch a lot. It starts off a little corny, but the more random crap it throws in there the better it gets (Karo with the tip on this one). My favorite? Buffalo.

Of course, there's history here...in middle school my favorite show was "The State," which produced the sketch below (edit: they pulled it, damn). And then of course in high school I *may* have been involved in the production of a video with Kevin Neville that involved me portraying a Russian man whose dream of playing hockey was complicated by the fact that he was born with loaves of bread for hands.

If you own a car and you're my friend, then I've probably lectured you on how to properly position your sideview mirrors to minimize (or erase) your blindspot. Unfortunately, you then probably switched your mirrors back because you're an idiot. Well, I just wanted to again remind you that a) I'm right and b) you're being unreasonable. I'm just trying to help, people.

As for the side mirror or mirrors, most people adjust them so they can see the side of the car on the inside edge of the mirror. Consider the view when the sideview mirrors are set up as just described. Essentially, you have created "tunnel vision" to the rear. Your sideview mirrors overlap much of what your inside rearview mirror sees and you've also created blind spots.

What is the solution to tunnel vision and blind spots? Simply adjust the sideview mirrors just beyond the point where you could see the side of the car on the inside edge of the mirror. With this setup, you almost completely solve the blind spot problem. To adjust the outside mirrors this way, follow these two steps: (This of course, is for vehicles with an inside mirror)

1) For the driver side mirror, roll up the window and press your head against the glass. Adjust the mirror so that you can just see the edge of the car.

2) For the passenger side mirror, place your head in the center of the car (directly behind the inside mirror mount) and adjust the outside mirror so that you can just see the edge of the car. This is necessary even with convex (curved) mirrors where the image is distorted a little.

Cut Copy has a new song up on their MySpace page. I've only listened to it once but I'll rip it and post it here in the next week or so.

Ratatat is indeed planning on a second volume hip hop remixes, meaning it will be safe for yuppie scum like me to listen to the rap music. Yay for rap!

Crystal Castles are a guy and a girl who make dirty-sounding electronica with the blips and bleeps from old video games. They're weird and you won't like them.

UTIOG: Their lead singer looks like Jason Schwartzmann's transvestite brother. Or sister. Whatever.

I assumed Under the Influence of Giants would be a bunch of douchebags because Mike Torto recommended them to me, but I'm coming around a bit. Don't get me wrong--they're definitely douchebags. Just look at them. But their music is kinda good, in that smarmy dancefloor-disco-rock kind of way. Plus they're touring with the Rapture, so they win cred points there.

The new movie Breach is about that dude (played by Chris Cooper) who was passing government secrets to the Russians for 20 years. I always feel kind of embarrassed when I see Ryan Phillippe act, but Crash was still good in spite of him, so...OK, that probably doesn't mean much.

Some of the best quotes of the 06/07 NBA season.

Salon has an interesting interview with Tyler Drumheller, the CIA's former chief of European Operations. While he doesn't comment specifically on some of the rendition issues, he does provide an interesting perspective on the CIA's work with European counterparts and the intelligence used to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Let me give you a general thought: From the perspective of the White House, it was smart to blur the lines about what was acceptable and what was not in the war on terrorism. It meant that whenever someone was overzealous in some dark interrogation cell, President Bush and his entourage could blame someone else. The rendition teams are drawn from paramilitary officers who are brave and colorful. They are the men who went into Baghdad before the bombs and into Afghanistan before the army. If they didn't do paramilitary actions for a living, they would probably be robbing banks. Perhaps the Bush administration deliberately created a gray area on renditions.

In recognition of both the comments being activated as well as the best quotes from this NBA season (and also Frank living in the Boston area), I would like to note that my beloved Celtics are taking years off of my life. They do this not only by losing, but also by placing bullshit like this:

http://www.nba.com/celtics/dancers/courtney-all-star-dance-team-vegas.html

on their website. Hey, we don't have anyone actually playing in the all-star game but "Courtney" is going to represent the Celtics dance team and dance her little heart out in Vegas. I hope "Courtney" doesn't know what usually happens to girls who dance their little hearts out in Vegas. Good luck, "Courtney."

And this is all aside from the fact that the very existence of the dance team killed Red Aurbach, and the Celtics are also actively trying to delude their fans by referring to the Shawmut-Fleet-TD Banknorth Shithole Center as "the Garden." Thanks assholes, you're right, it's just like the old Garden, except the Celtics are worse than my high school team and, um, this is the third fucking bank it's been named after. But I guess I shouldn't be so bitter, authentic jerseys are available and ready to be shipped.
