There's now a real trailer for next summer's Transformers movie. The cuts are a little quick, so you don't get a great feel for the look of the robots, but there's really no way I won't see this movie.

Trailer for Letters from Iwo Jima. Was there anyway they could make a movie this big involving Japan and not have Ken Watanabe involved?

I'm disappointed enough with the new Bloc Party album that I've taken the totally irrelevant step of removing them from my "favorite music" list on facebook. I know, it's a big move. But hey, Silent Alarm is one of my favorite albums ever, so my pettiness speaks volumes about my disrespect for their new stuff. Anyway, what makes it even more frustrating is that the only new song that really jumped out at me from live stuff I had heard was "Blue Moon," which apparently was renamed "England" before it was left off the album. Anyway, hopefully it pops up as a b-side. Here's a live recording that I find inexplicably good:

The Department of Energy has some interesting findings on the prospects for plug-in hybrids

According to a preliminary release, the study looks at the effects of plug-in hybrids on foreign oil imports, the environment, electric utilities, and consumers, and claims to be the first comprehensive review of the impact of a high market penetration of PHEVs, which should easily have enough electric-mode driving range to do the average American's commute of 33 miles without using gasoline. Although specific details of the study will be released in a paper to be published in two weeks, the report appears to run counter to electric-car critics who have long speculated that our power grid doesn't have the capacity to support electric cars in any high number, and to the brownouts that have affected the Eastern states the past several summers.

I don't know what the fuck this is, but it says here it's the amazing handless shoe-tying trick.
