Strays Don't Sleep: In the market for a new futon

I saw Strays Don't Sleep on Conan the other day and they sounded promising. They performed "Martin Luther Ave." from their self-titled debut album. Unfortunately the best part of the Conan performance is a Daniel Kessleresque guitar part that isn't even on the album version. Annoying. Most of their stuff is down-tempo with beats. And stuff.

Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Awkward Comments Committee. I'm still trying to figure out how this was supposed to be not offensive.

Pitchfork offers a new song by the Brazilian Cansei de Ser Sexy, which by its title alone required me to listen. Not bad...I guess disco-punk is only now filtering down to South America or something.

Emmy nominations are out. Arrested Development gets a nom for best comedy series, as does Will Arnett for best supporting actor in a comedy. Huzzah!

I thought Superman Returns was pretty great, definitely in the Batman Begins class of comic book blockbusters that are actually good movies.

First saw this a year or two ago, but Rob Corddry's Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story is finally coming out in theaters. You can tell this was made a while ago because Corddry still has some hair on the front of his head.

The film's a who's who of basic cable comedy all-stars/wannabes, and also features Boston comic DJ Hazard, whose immortal "You cannot imagine the enormity of the fuck I do not give" is still a favorite quote of our crew.

Really enjoyed French action flick District B13. I could watch the trailer about 85 times, and the movie is pretty much the trailer expanded into 90 minutes: lots of fast-paced, slickly-directed ass-kicking set to electronic music. Works for me.

Like every good action movie that involves France, Luc Besson is involved, this time as screenwriter. I also recognized Cyril Raffaelli (the bald guy) as one of the "twins" from Jet Li's Kiss of the Dragon, which this film shares a lot of stylistic and thematic similarities with. Check out this clip where Jet destroys a dojo full of French cops and then takes out the "twins."
