Hello, Cleveland!

Some guy with Kelly Crisp and Ivan Howard

The Rosebuds
are a husband-wife duo from North Carolina that released their second album, Birds Make Good Neighbors, at the end of September. If you like rock or pop music you will probably like them...how's that for specificity? Sorry. Anyway, I'm in love with the first song below:

The Rosebuds / "Boxcar" (from Bars & Guitars)
The Rosebuds / "Blue Bird"
The Rosebuds / "Leaves Do Fall" (from Blisspop)

Their website apparently crashed due to increased bandwidth, so snack on the above instead.

I linked one of the Rosebuds' songs from Bliss Pop so I'll just continue on with the highlights from BP:

Colder / "To the Music"
I linked to a stream of this last week so I was overjoyed to find a real mp3 floating around. Fucking badass.

Every Move a Picture / "Chemical Burns"
I have the feeling I will be talking more about these guys in the near future, but I'll leave at this for now. Thick basslines, crunchy guitars...definitely new wave-ish, but not trite, which is saying something at this point. Check out the audio on their site.

Minotaur Shock / "Vigo Bay"
Kind of Ratatat-ish. Speaking of which, Ratatat needs to get their shit together and start playing some shows again.

Tangiers / "Dragging the Harbour"
Pretty good. Definitely not going to last long on my playlist, but worth a listen.

DFA79's ass-kicking cover of "Better Off Dead" was posted by Stereogum. It's on the remix album which comes out today.

Mono is a Japanese band whose music sounds like soundtracks to epic movies that have both wars and love stories in them. This is a brilliant song.

Good Night, and Good Luck was OK. David Strathairn is pretty excellent as Edward R. Murrow, but in general the film just didn't seem to pack much of a punch. The whole story just seems kind of awkwardly pulled together, as a viewer I just wasn't clear what the central conflict was half the time, and by the end the film just was lacking the gravitas it was shooting for. In general it just felt like there was a 20 minute beginning to the movie which I missed entirely. Joe McCarthy is bad, by the way.

Posted some H-Y pics to my Facebook page, I'll eventually put them somewhere else as well...
