Hello, Cleveland!

[ 7.27.2005 ]

A fantastic new film is Me and You and Everyone We Know. It's an indie film which has won a bunch of awards and shit, and it's not *quite* as pretentious as the trailer makes it out to be.

John Hawkes and Miranda July star, but it's Miles Thompson and Brandon Ratcliff who steal the show

The movie was written and directed by Miranda July, who also stars. She plays an odd but sweet artist who develops a fast crush on a shoe salesman played by John Hawkes. Yet it's the kids who steal the show--Hawkes' on-screen sons were probably my favorite part of the movie.

The music is also pitch perfect for the film; I'm not sure how much sense it makes without seeing the film, but it's right here.

Torr has a couple new songs from the forthcoming Nada LP. They're only meh though.

Bliss Pop has a few decent songs from this month's playlist.

Monster & Maskiner / "I Won't Stay"
A couple Swedish guys who specialize in dinner theater electro-schlock pull out a fucking great song. If you go to their website you'll find it's the exception to the rule it seems...

Geiger / "Cocain-e"
If Jamiroquai were murdered in Detroit and then rebuilt into a cyborg band by OCP... then you'd be justified in asking why the fictional evil corporation from the Robocop movies would want to save Jamiroquai from the scrap heap. After all, they're pretty cashed as a musical entity. But you also would get something that sounded like this. It's like streamlined Jamiroquai, without Jay-Kay and his fruitcake headwear.
