Hello, Cleveland!

[ 6.11.2005 ]

Did I ever link "America We Stand As One"??? It appeared on Stereogum a couple months back and I just thought of it again and how mind-blowing it is. In case you're wondering, no, this isn't fake. If you read the other part of the website, you'll see this is a charitable effort masterminded by Hollywood stuntman-cum-Lee-Greenwood-wannabe Dennis Madalone. The scary part is that I could totally see much of American thinking this is really great. Definitely appeals to the 9/11 bumpersticker crowd.

Kent's Du und Jag Doden isn't as good as their last two albums, but it ain't bad. You can find a bunch of Kent stuff here. Some highlights:

Kent / "FF" [single mix]
This was the first Kent song I ever heard. It's about as poppy, bounce-y and dance-y as they get, and comes from their 2002 release Vapen och Ammunition. There's even some chick backing vocals in French!

Kent / "Palace & Main"
This is the latest single off their new album. It's not quite as infection as "FF" but I really like it. I haven't bothered to figure out the English translation but if you listen closely you hear Michael Caine and Robin Wright Penn mentioned...so I think I'd just be disappointed anyway.

I generally don't have the patience to watch one-hour tv shows, so I've missed out on the whole "Lost" phenomenon, but I DVRed the first episode which was shown last week and watched it this afternoon. It's pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I can motivate myself to watch 21 more hours of it (not that I don't have time).

It seems I should have mentioned Tom Vek at some point, but if I haven't he's a buzz-worthy young English guy who plays fast, heavy indie rock. I've linked to "I Ain't Saying My Goodbyes," a remix of which is available for download at Bliss Pop. Nina is a big believer, so I have to give some respect. His debut album We Have Sound hasn't been released stateside yet but hopefully it'll happen soon. Check out some videos here.

If you like obscure indie hiphop and rock or not, check out Riffcentral. In case you're not smart, these aren't real interviews. But they are fucking funny.

I haven't been more than casually interested in all the Watergate/Deep Throat stuff, but I found this article very cool--Bob Woodward talking about how he met Mark Felt and the details of how they came to work together.

ESPN is doing a series on agents in sports which is pretty interesting. Here's something on the friendship between Dontrelle Willis and his agent Matt Sosnick.
