Hello, Cleveland!

[ 2.09.2005 ]

So I thought the Doves full album link was dead but it's not...Some Cities.

My faves besides the aforementioned "Black and White Town" are "Some Cities" and "Walk in Fire." The latter has a very similar feel to the best song from the last album, "There Goes the Fear."

Phase II to becoming a popular band: you get at least one really good fansite. Welcome to Phase II, Arcade Fire.

Also, because I like indie music and this is a webpage, I'm required to link to one or more Arcade Fire songs each day. So here are a couple links that No Frontin', Just Mp3 has linked, from their pre-Funeral EP:

Arcade Fire / "Headlights Like Diamonds"
Arcade Fire / "Old Flame"

So Rosa forwarded me a link to the new Google maps page, which is AWESOME. As an amateur cartographer I'm happy to report the maps themselves as well as the scrolling and directions features torch Yahoo and Mapquest. Who knows if the directions are accurate, but they sure look pretty.

This website is simply awesome: the Baby Name Wizard. It dynamically charts the poplarity of names over time (by decade). Just click on it and go nuts. I was happy to see that Frank is now only the 228th most popular name among boys. Thanks to Karo for the link.

Here's a phrase most new parents won't want to hear: "Genital reconstruction will probably wait until adolescence."

Speaking of needing genital reconstruction (I promise, that's the last time I ever utter that phrase), sometimes it's ok not to follow up on promises.

I think my least favorite eulogy (as opposed to favorite?) is when some famous person dies and they always say "He was a great (fill in skill), but he was an even better person." First off, you he wasn't. If you were, for example, a Hall of Fame-type athlete, then you're in the top couple hundred people out of the hundreds of millions (or more) who have tried to play your sport. So while you might be pretty nice, you're a much better athlete than person. And that's OK. And besides, you probably cheated on your wife at least a few hundred times.

Agingrapidly.com has full concerts from Radiohead and Wilco in 1998. In other words, while this was before Wilco was all that great, it was after OKC came out so the Radiohead stuff is terrific. Plus it has "Let Down," one of my all-time fave Radiohead songs which they never play live anymore. And good quality, too.
