Hello, Cleveland!

[ 1.22.2005 ]

Hot tip from Al (the Stal) "Hash" Brown(ies). Normally I'd say nobody rocks a beard quite like the Stallion and his bro Stu, but apparently that's not totally accurate.

Check out some pics from the 2003 World Beard and Moustache Championship. Stu is considering entering the "freestyle beard" competition at the 2005 WBMC in Berlin. I am considering purchasing the T-Shirt and/or the DVD.

Beck is coming out with a new album soon and it won't sound like Sea Change. I found a few tracks online on Friday and now found some different ones for you. This link will probably die soon. "Guero" is the first single apparently. These are supposedly not the final versions but that just means that you're not allowed to think they suck.

Will Ferrell with Beck. Or maybe that's Dana Carvey.

Remember when Beck rapped? Remember when Beck rapped in Spanish? Yeah, kinda like that.

The Arcade Fire were on KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic and played a new song called "Intervention." BTW, I'm ripping off a lot of shit from Stereogum today.

Live by the Strokes on WFMU: Trying Your Luck. Pretty good.

I love rap music!

Not really, but I do really like "Hate It or Love It" by The Game. I heard it while I was at Newbs' and really liked it. I could tell 50 Cent was one of the rappers (surprising I could), so after a little bit of searching I found it was actually The Game. This is a terrific song.

I like this song because the backing track sounds like an old R&B/Motown-ish song. Not that I love R&B and Motown, but sometimes these things work. This is similar to "I'll Be Around" by Rappin-4-Tay, which I saw once late at night on MTV when I was in high school and then by the miracle of downloading was finally able to hear again when I got to college and got it off Napster. That song is a rip-off of the same-titled song by the Spinners, which then became my favorite Motown song (there's not a lot of competition).

A "thriller" starring Adrien Brody is not something I should want to see, but for some reason I find this trailer for The Jacket kind of intriguing. It's also incredibly difficult to follow.

I found the site of this NYU kid named Aziz while looking for those Beck songs. He has these cheap little movies he made which I found amusing.

Stylus Mag has their 40 worst albums of the year. Some of my faves are in there, but I respect the snide comments. I especially appreciated the prickish comments about Annie, the Futureheads, and the Fiery Furnaces, who BLOW.

Did you never hear Pinkerton? My favorites are Good Life and Pink Triangle.
