So in honor of MLK day (not a recognized holiday at The NorthBridge Group, mind you), here's a little story about the founder of Kwanzaa, Maulana Karenga, born Ron Everett. Apparently, a couple years before founding Kwanzaa, he dabbled in schizophrenic cult-leading that eventuated in the brutalizing of two women:

"Deborah Jones, who once was given the Swahili title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis' mouth and placed against Miss Davis' face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said."

This article is thoroughly amusing when you consider this guy went from fronting a cult and being convicted of felony assault to running Long Beach State's African-American studies department ten years later. And oh yeah, being known as the founder of Kwanzaa. Mind you the website is um, somewhat conservative (I can't say I'd ever heard of it before)...but still. You just can't make this stuff up...

I admit, I watched a good chunk of both American Idol and My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance tonight. I thought both were relatively amusing, especially the latter--not so much the idea (the family wasnt involved yet) but just Steve Gorman, the fat guy (he's an actor). My favorite part was when, while commenting on the attractiveness of Randi, his supposed wife-to-be, he stated most of the girls he picks up at bars are "pretty run-down."

One of the best car websites out there is Auto Spies. Here they ganked pics of the gorgeous new BMW 4-series, to debut in 2006. I guess the 4 will be the more powerful coupe, taking over for the current 325ci and 330ci.
