So on Saturday I saw Cowboy Mouth (great show) and Everclear (pretty lame) at Summerfest. Kevin bought $15 worth of gator on a stick ($3 each)...he gave me half of one and it's quite a tasty 75% gator, 25% pork treat.
BUT last night we went to the Foo Fighters/Pete Yorn show which was really impressive. Apparently no one bought the crappier reserved seats because they let those of us with free lawn seat tickets move down into the bench area--the same place I paid 30 bucks to see the Foo Fighters/Chili Peppers show three years ago (in the pouring rain). Pete was pretty boring as a guy but sounded good--he's one of those guys whose voice is as good live as on CD. It was a short set since he was opening but I was disappointed he didn't play "Strange Condition," my absolute fave song of his which is also one of my top 100 favorite songs overall (what does that even mean???).
Then Foo Fighters came on and ROCKED. I only own "The Colour and the Shape," so I didn't know most of the songs, but they played a mix of old and new. "My Hero" is pretty amazing live, one of those great songs people get into and sing along...there's something about seeing 20,000 people feeling the same urgency as the lead singer which is really cool. The show closer was "Everlong," my favorite FF song...really amazing, people going nuts, singing/screaming along. Certain songs you see live and they kind of blow away what you could have hoped for--from concerts I've seen, I'd place a handful of songs into that category.
"Yellow" - Coldplay in Chicago, June of 2001.
"Fake Plastic Trees" and "Karma Police" - Radiohead in Chicago, August 2001.
"The Scientist" - Coldplay in Boston, September 2002.
"California Stars" and "Shot in the Arm" - Wilco in Boston, October 2002.
