Musings, Larry King style...

I like the singer guy from Linkin Park a million times more than the rapper guy.

Are the Strokes even capable of making a "better," more "mature" album to follow up "Is This It"? And if it's not that great or different, will the media try to convince us it is, like they did with The White Stripes' last album? I like the Strokes and their first album, but they don't strike me as music visionaries.

I like the song "Swing Swing" by the All-American Rejects, but let's be honest, you can't like a band with a name like that for more than a few months. I hate it when bands make their name into a joke.

So the next great movie of the year is supposed to be Seabiscuit (or maybe it's Sea Biscuit). I always like Tobey Maguire's movies (especially Wonder Boys), but I can't help but conclude he has the personality of a walnut.

The newest ads for the Tumbleweed restaurant chain ask the question "Need the 'Weed?" Do they find this as amusing as the average person under 30 surely does?

As related by the wonderful Cathy Tran (ie an email she forwarded me), a British energy provider named Powergen opened up its business in Italy recently, and its website is http://www.powergenitalia.com. If you don't find this amusing, look at the name of the website again.

If you need proof that backup vocals can make a good song great, check out "Apple Bed" (f/Nina Persson of the Cardigans) and "Piano Fire" (f/PJ Harvey) by Sparklehorse.
