Hello, Cleveland!

Oh, so the economics general exam was yesterday as well. This is a really pointless exam given that a) like most Harvard students, I'm guaranteed to graduate with honors from the college due to my GPA being above 3.0, and so if I graduate with honors in my concentration there's virtually no way for future employers to know the difference and b) because my GPA is relatively high for someone who is lazy and didn't want to write a thesis, I had to only get better than a D+ to assure cum laude honors. Still, I studied a decent amount, which was kind of nice because I had to relearn the things that one is supposed to learn while pursuing an undergraduate degree in economics.

My favorite part of the exam was the dreaded econometrics question, which wasn't really that bad. However, in a question about how one would revise a t-test so that an ordinary least squares estimator is consistent for a linear probit model, I took the liberty of quoting my favorite Harvard economist, Eli Ewing: "Buy low, sell high." For the record, Eli has never taken an economics course, but he did take part in the Oklahoma agricultural economics tournament.

CuJo couldn't stop Kariya's snipe from the slot.

Also, I've failed to make note of this, but for the longest time now (since about 1995) my favorite hockey team has been the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (yes, the Disney-owned team named after the children's movie). Well, at the moment they're beating the highly favored Detroit Red Wings (whom I've also always liked) 3 games to none in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. So for the first time in a long time (some would say for the first time ever), being a fan of the Ducks isn't increidbly lame. Paul Kariya, my favorite hockey player, scored the triple-OT game winner in the first game. Nice!
